Prontosan Irrigating Solution 40ml

Prontosan Irrigating Solution is a wound cleanser made from purified water and 2 key ingredients: 0.1% Polyhexamethylene Biguanide (PHMB), an antimicrobial, and 0.1% Betaine, a surfactant. Both act directly in breaking down biofilm and preventing its reformation, thereby reducing the level of infection and promoting healing. It is available in a 350 ml tamper resistant bottle with safety seal and a 40 ml single use ampoule.

Prontosan can be used for cleansing, rehydrating, and decontaminating acute and chronic wounds that are at risk of infection by aiding the removal of bacteria and debris. The irrigation solution can be used to rinse the wound prior to application of Prontosan Wound Gel, which is available in two preparations:

• Prontosan Wound Gel, which can be used on small wounds, cavities and other difficult to reach areas.

• Prontosan Wound Gel X, which is highly viscous and can be used when larger quantities are required.

Prontosan is indicated for use in the following types of wounds:

• Post-operative wounds

• Traumatic wounds

• Infected wounds in diabetics

• Pressure ulcers

• Venous stasis ulcers

• 1st and 2nd degree burns

Other uses include:

• Cleansing access points for dialysis

  • AV fistula

  • AV graft site

  • CV catheter

  • PD catheter

• Cleansing PEG/PEJ tube sites

• Stoma care

  • Colostomy

  • Ileostomy

  • Urostomy

• Other uses as determined and prescribed by your doctor.

• Prontosan should not be used on anyone with a known or suspected allergy to betaine or PHMB.

• It is contraindicated for use on the central nervous system or meninges, middle or inner ear, eyes or on hyaline cartilage during surgery.

• Prontosan should not be combined with other wound cleansers or ointments.

• Although Prontosan is unlikely to cause harm as it is not absorbed systemically, it should only be used in pregnant or lactating women or babies and infants under medical supervision due to lack of appropriate clinical trials.
